Agricola Calafata

Agricola Calafata is a winery whose name originates from the famous "master caulkers", who were able to create seaworthy boats by waterproofing them with simple rope and pitch. In the modern reality, the Calafata farm was established in 2011 as a venture formed by a group of people capable of transforming unproductive land into a profitable and high-value place, a social cooperative that brings to market a product of the highest quality, born from the work of land reclamation.
Directly from the heart of the Colline Lucchesi, a production of bottles comes from vineyards that are in some cases over seventy years old, with hand-picked grapes that are fermented without any added yeasts. In the Calafata cellar, the aging process takes place in a perfect mix of cement and steel, resulting in a wine that, in its various expressions, manages to convey allthe characteristics of its land of origin, especially after resting for a few months in the bottle before being released to the market.
A love for nature combined with biodynamic knowledge allows quality products to be brought to the table. Vintage Tuscan vineyards of Vermentino, Malvasia, Trebbiano, and Moscato give life to Levato di Gronda, an excellence of the Calafata cellars, the first white produced by the company, ideal for meals during the summer, perfect as an aperitif for the rest of the year. With over seventy years behind them, the vines from which Levato di Majulina originates, a medium-intense spicy red, offer an excellent accompaniment to typical Tuscan culinary specialties.
Over the years, Agricola Calafata has been enriched by the presence of people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, characteristics that have allowed the cooperative to grow and establish itself as one of the brightest notes in the Italian wine sector. Working the land with rigor and passion has borne itsfruits, bringing back to life grapes and vineyards that seemed to have no future, and which today become the crown jewel of a modern company that has not forgotten the lessons of the past.
