André Pellissier

The production of the young wine-growing reality Pellissier is characterized by the juiciness of the fruit and the fragrant aromas, determined by the characteristic climate of the Valle d'Aosta. The winery was officially founded in 2017 by André Pellissier, although his great-grandfather had already planted the first vines in Saint-Pierre in the historic area of Torrette, a few kilometers west of Aosta, back in the 1950s. In this valley carved by the Dora Baltea river, traces of viticulture date back millennia, going as far back as the Celtic period, testifying to the enological aptitude of the region that well compensates for the cultivation difficulties due to steep slopes and a harsh climate. In fact, the characteristic conformation of the territory has often required the creation of terraces to facilitate the management of the rows.

The André Pellissier estate has 2 hectares of vineyards, not few considering the very small average size of the Aosta Valley wineries. Only black grape varieties are cultivated, such as the indigenous Fumin, Petit Rouge, and Vien de Nus, to whichadd the French grape varieties Syrah and Pinot Noir, perfectly adapted to the cool climate of the region. The plants, located between 700 and 900 meters above sea level, are rooted in sandy soils formed by a substrate of carbonate rocks with glacial granite deposits, rich in silica. The climate is typically alpine, with harsh winters and cool summers characterized by significant daily temperature fluctuations. In the vineyard, attention and care are meticulous, aimed at growing healthy plants and harvesting clusters at the perfect degree of ripeness. To this end, almost all agronomic operations are performed by hand, including pruning and harvesting. The aging of the wines mostly takes place in oak barriques of multiple passages, or in steel, depending on the label in question.

Pellissier exclusively produces red wines that well represent the Aosta Valley's viticultural spirit. They are fine and seductive interpretations, released annually in just a few thousand bottles.
