Antoine Sanzay

The Domaine Antoine Sanzay is located in the beautiful French region of the Loire Valley, in the heart of the Saumur-Champigny Appellation. The winery is based in Varrains, on the road des Roches-Neuves, in an area historically very suited to the production of great wines. After finishing his studies, Antoine Sanzay decided to dedicate himself to viticulture following the ancient family tradition. Until that moment, the estate's grapes were sold to the cooperative winery of Saint-Cyr-en-Bourg, but aware of the potential of the vines and the quality of the grapes, in the late '90s, Antoine decided to enhance the family heritage and create his own independent winery, to vinify on his own and market his bottles.

The estate of Antoine Sanzay extends overall over 12 hectares, which also include a prestigious plot of 4 hectares in the cru Les Poyeux.  The majority of the vines, more than 10 hectares, are planted with Cabernet Franc in the territory of the Saumur-Champigny Appellation and the rest with the white grape variety Chenin Blanc in the area of the Saumur Appellation. These are parcels that have an average age of about 40 years and produce high-quality grapes, characterized by intense and concentrated aromas. The agronomic management is oriented towards the protection of the environment and the overall ecosystem of the vineyard, with grassed inter-rows and without the use of chemical herbicides. In the countryside, traditional principles and good farming practices passed down from generation to generation are followed.

The harvests are carried out strictly by hand. The winery practices are simple, with minimal and non-invasive oenological intervention. Spontaneous fermentations are favored using only indigenous yeasts, in order to maintain an authentic relationship with the vineyard. The wines mature for a long time in the caves of the domaine and are marketed only when they have reached maturity. The labels of Antoine Sanzay have quickly established themselves among the most interesting in the area and are continuously growing in quality. The Cabernet Franc has now reached a level of absolute excellence, with an elegant, freshand refined, and Chenin Blanc gives wines with lively expressive energy.
