Bodega Numanthia
Bodega Numanthia is a renowned Spanish winery operating in the Toro area, a wine region of which it is one of the leading wine producers, known for its powerful and intricate interpretations. The estate, located precisely in Valdefinjas, in the province of Zamora, was founded in 1998 and has quickly become a symbol of the wines of the Toro denomination, an expression of a territory that boasts a millennia-old winemaking tradition. The name Numanthia pays homage to the brave warriors of Numancia, who in the 2nd century BC resisted Roman assaults for 20 years, ultimately choosing to sacrifice their lives rather than surrender.
Bodega Numanthia has 200 hectares of vineyards, spread across the municipalities of Toro, Morales de Toro, Valdefinjas, Venialbo, El Pego, and Argujillo, characterized by heterogeneous soils, microclimates, and altitudes. The vineyards, partly composed of ancient vines rooted on their own roots, some of which are up to 200 years old, are trained as bush vines on rocky and sandy soils. The processes in hand are carried out to preserve the health and balance of the vines while the agronomic management follows the principles of organic farming. Based on these environmental and cultivation parameters, the estate cultivates Tinta de Toro, a local biotype of Tempranillo known for the remarkable concentration and elegance of the wines it produces. Each parcel is vinified separately to enhance the peculiar essence of the subzone, and then they are blended according to the characteristics of each wine. Long aging takes place in small French oak barrels of first and more passes.
The expressions of Tinta de Toro produced by the winery Bodega Numanthia are three: the ‘Termes’, the most vibrant and accessible interpretation, the ‘Numanthia’, which best condenses the style of the winery, and the ‘Termanthia’, the most prestigious Tinta de Toro. What unites the three labels is the elegance and powerful structure typical of the grape variety and the signature style of the bodega.
