Buzio Oreste
The Buzio Oreste winery operates among the gentle hills of Monferrato, in Lower Piemonte, a territory where wines of great typicity are produced in respect of the environment. The historical roots of the estate date back to the 1800s, when Agostino Buzio purchased the Cascina Dietro Castello in Vignale Monferrato, consisting of a rustic farmhouse and 30 hectares of surrounding land occupied by vineyards and arable land. In 1871, the property was divided among Agostino Buzio's three sons, Felice, Domenico, and Carlo, with Felice's share later passing to his son Oreste, the founder of the current winery. Oreste Buzio indeed directed the estate towards quality viticulture and winemaking, remaining tied to tradition while also adopting an innovative approach, a philosophy still pursued by the Buzio family today to produce high-level wines.
The vineyards of the Oreste Buzio estate, spread over a single plot of about 5 hectares, are mainly reserved for traditional varieties such as Barbera, Freisa, Grignolino, and Albarossa, alongside international grape varieties.Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The rows are arranged on hilly limestone soils facing east and southeast and have been managed under certified organic regime since 2001, excluding the use of synthetic chemical products to promote the health of the environment and ecological balance. The harvest is carried out strictly by hand to preserve the integrity of the grapes, which are then vinified through destemming and alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. For the subsequent aging periods, containers in steel or French oak tonneau are always used, depending on the wine in question.
The production of the Oreste Buzio winery is focused on the wines of the Monferrato territory, such as Barbera del Monferrato and Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese. Among the most representative expressions stands out the Barbera del Monferrato Superiore ‘Riccardo II’, an intense and full-bodied Barbera, characterized by spicy notes and boisé due to aging in tonneau.
