Ca' Marcanda

From the enterprise and genius of Angelo Gaja, the Tuscan winery Ca' Marcanda was born: a wine gem immersed in the fascinating territory of Bolgheri. The Gaja family's adventure in Tuscany officially began in 1996, when Angelo finally managed to purchase the property after exhausting negotiations with the previous owners. For this reason, he chose the name Ca' Marcanda for the winery, an expression from the Piedmont dialect that can be translated as "house of endless negotiations", as "ca'" means house and "marcanda" means "to haggle". In just a few years, following significant efforts and investments, the renowned producer from Langhe managed to establish the reality of Ca' Marcanda in the Bolgheri area, thanks also to the elegant style and foresight that have always characterized the expert entrepreneur. Alongside Montalcino, where Angelo Gaja founded the Pieve di Santa Restituta estate, the Bolgheri area represents the first zone outside the Langhe.where the producer decided to invest. Currently, Angelo is supported in managing the winery by his children Gaia, Rossana, and Giovanni, the fifth generation of the Gaja family.

The Ca' Marcanda estate, located in Santa Teresa, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci, comprises 100 hectares of vineyards planted between '97 and '98 on rather heterogeneous soils, characterized mainly by limestone, clay, and gravel. The cultivated grape varieties are the typical international ones of the area: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Viognier, in addition to Sangiovese and Vermentino. The grapes, surrounded by olive groves, are processed through a precise winemaking approach, with aging taking place in French oak barriques.

The wines produced by Ca' Marcanda stand out for their modern and full style, as well as for their round and enveloping taste, rich in sensations of ripe fruit and spices. These are high-level labels that reflect the winemaking vocation of the Bolgheri area, each endowed with a distinct personality. Amongthese, special mention should be made of the Bolgheri Rosso ‘Magari’ and the Bolgheri Rosso Ca' Marcanda.
