Chakana

Chakana is a young Argentine reality, born in 2002 with the aim of producing high-quality wines, made with an absolutely eco-friendly and environmentally respectful process. The estate Día de la Chakana was created by the Pelizzatti family, who simultaneously purchased about 3000 hectares in Agrelo, Luján de Cuyo, and Mendoza. The first harvest was made in 2003, and in 2010 the winery expanded with the entry of other local families into the company. In the following years, the focus on vineyard management led to the adoption of organic farming, with certification obtained in 2014. In 2018, it obtained Demeter biodynamic certification and launched a line of wines without added sulfites on the market.

The increasingly sustainable approach is based on an ancestral Andean culture, which considers man and his activities within a broader and more comprehensive natural universe. The term Chaka refers to the concept of union, of connection between the things, between complementary elements, within a universal space-time system. General principles that prioritize respect for the Planet and nature as a fundamental element of life, which find a translation in the practices of organic and biodynamic agriculture. A philosophy based on the awareness of adopting virtuous production and feeding methods. Biodynamics, in particular, ensures the application of environmentally respectful farming, which is considered a sort of living organism.

The estate is located in the Mendoza area, one of the most suitable in all of Argentina for viticulture. The vineyards cover a total area of 80 hectares, at an altitude of about 900 meters above sea level, and are situated within a natural context of great biodiversity, with olive groves, fruit trees, wild plants, and aromatic herbs that are used to make biodynamic preparations for vineyard treatments. The climate is cool and breezy, with significant temperature fluctuations between day and night temperatures. The soils are medium-textured, sandy-loam in nature, very suitable for viticulture. The most cultivated grape varieties are: Malbec, Bonarda, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay.
