Château de Fleys
Château de Fleys is a historic family Domaine of the famous Chablis denomination. It is located in the municipal territory of the small village of Fleys, on the right bank of the Serein river, which divides the Appellation in two. Its origins date back to the end of the 19th century, when Julien Philippon, originally from Vezelay, moved to Chablis and purchased an estate with vineyards, land, and woods, which still today constitutes the central core of the company. The property has been passed down from father to son for several generations, and in 1988, André Philippon acquired Château de Fleys, an ancient building dating back to the 17th century, once owned by Seigneur de Parthenay, squire of the sovereign Louis XIV. Since 2006, the estate has been managed by Béatrice, Benoît, and Olivier, who have modernized the structure by building two new cellars and continue to carry on the family tradition with great passion.
The Chablis territory is located in the northernmost area of the Burgundy region, in the Yonne department, less than 200 kilometers from Paris. This is an area that has been famous for viticulture since the time of the ancient Romans and still today represents one of the regions that produces some of the best whites in France and thus in the world. Within the territory of the denomination, only Chardonnay is cultivated, which in these lands expresses itself with a very refined profile characterized by a crystalline mineral freshness. The secret of the great wines of Chablis lies in the particular pedoclimatic characteristics of the area. The climate is continental, very cool, and well-ventilated, and the soils are of ancient marine origin, with outcrops of Kimmeridgian limestone, rich in fossils of small oyster shells. A unique combination that creates a terroir of the highest quality.
The Château de Fleys estate extends over a total area of about thirty hectares, divided into numerous parcels, located in the territory of the AOC Chablis Village and in the prestigious Premier Crus of the right bank: Les Fourneaux and Mont de Milieu.
