Château Yvonne

Château Yvonne is located in the Loire Valley, near Parnay, a small village famous since the Middle Ages for its wine production. The tradition of viticulture has reached our days and in 1997 Yvonne and Jean-François Lamunière decided to restore the splendor of this ancient terroir by founding Domaine Château Yvonne. From the early years of activity, the estate has stood out with excellent dry Chenin Blanc, thanks also to an extraordinary heritage of vines. In 2007 the property was purchased by Mathieu Vallée. The vineyard area covers 11 hectares, of which 8 are cultivated with Cabernet Franc and 3 with Chenin Blanc. In the following years, a new winery was built with temperature-controlled tanks and more modern technologies, allowing for the production of more precise wines.

In 2020, the Les Pierres Blanches parcel of Cabernet Franc was interplanted with Pineau d’Aunis to create a new cuvée of red grapes. The following year, the vineyard area of Château Yvonne was enriched with another 4 hectares located in the municipal territory of Parnay, including the one-hectare parcel of Clos de la Pouge, planted with Chenin Blanc in 1947. Today, the estate covers a total of 16 hectares, in the heart of the Appellation Saumur Champigny, in the municipalities of: Parnay, Champigny, Turquant, and Montsoreau. About ten hectares are dedicated to Cabernet Franc, 5 hectares to Chenin Blanc, and just over half a hectare to Pineau d’Aunis. The vineyards of Parnay, Turquant, and Montsoreau are located in the Côte de Saumur, on the left bank of the Loire, characterized by clay and sandy soils, resting on a mother rock of limestone and gypsum, capable of retaining water at depth, avoiding water stress for the plants. The Chenin Blanc vines are also found in this area, historically suited for white grape varieties. However, there are also parcels of red grapes, used for cuvées intended for long aging

In the area south of Parnay, on the other hand, we find geologically younger soils, predominantly composed of sands, perfect for producing fruity and fragrant red wines. The Champigny areahosts 5 hectares of Cabernet Franc vines, the principal grape variety of this territory, characterized by soils resting on a hard white limestone rock. This is a late-ripening area, which allows for the production of intense wines with great freshness. The vines are carefully tended, according to the principles of organic farming, always striving to bring grapes of excellent quality to maturity. All fermentations start spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and the use of sulfur is minimal
