Constel Lats
Among the Mediterranean hills of the La Serra de Montsant Natural Park, in the province of Tarragona, the Catalan wine reality Constel-Lats produces free from conventional schemes and standards, with the sole purpose of showcasing the most authentic and spontaneous face of the Priorat area. At the helm of the winery are Albert and Alba, both raised in Falset among olive groves and vineyards. Albert has been producing wines in this area for over 20 years during which he has developed a deep knowledge of local varieties, soil, microclimate, and the territory in general, while Alba is a biologist specialized in vine studies. Together, they have revived ancestral winemaking techniques in respect of this ancient land and its deep-rooted wine tradition, thus giving life to Constel-Lats.
The vineyards extend for just over one and a half hectares, enough to express the potential of Priorat. Among the cultivated varieties, Garnacha Tinta reigns supreme, associated with another indigenous grape like Cariñena and the international variety Syrah. The Garnacha comes from two differentplots: one located at high altitude within the village of Morera de Monstant and the other, warmer, located in Vila de Porrera, in the lower part of Priorat. The agronomic philosophy of the winery provides for maximum respect for the soil and the ecosystem. After harvest, the grapes are vinified whole in steel tanks, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and complete malolactic fermentation. The oenological interventions are minimal and indeed Albert and Alba refuse to use additives and adjuncts, including sulfites.
Constel-Lats produces a single label, a pure and sincere Priorat, simple and complete at the same time. In fact, Albert and Alba's goal is to create a wine where the fruit and primary perceptions prevail over any other organoleptic characteristic. Thus, a red wine with a fruity and Mediterranean aromatic profile is born, endowed with a very pleasant fresh and juicy taste.
