Domaine des Comtes Lafon
The Domaine des Comtes Lafon is located in Meursault, in one of the most famous terroirs of the Côte de Beaune. It is a classic family estate founded by Jules Lafont back in 1923. Today it is the third generation, represented by Dominique Lafont who manages the property. The estate covers a total of just over 16 hectares, divided into many small plots all managed with the utmost respect for the environment, applying the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture, with the aim of highlighting the expressive nuances of the terroir. The vineyard park is of absolute level and is spread over the territory of four municipalities and fifteen famous denominations. In Meursault: Meursault Village, Clos de la Barre, Désirée, Charmes, Goutte d'Or, Porusots, Bouchères, Genevrières, Perrières and Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu. In Volnay: Champans and Clos des Chênes. In Monthélie: Monthélie-les-Duresses and Monthélie Blanc. Finally, in Chassagne-Montrachet: Montrachet
As for viticulture, the plots located in the municipal territories of Meursault, Puligny and Montrachet are cultivated with Chardonnay, while those of Volnay and Monthélie with Pinot Noir. As is customary in Burgundy, all the vines are planted with the high planting density of 10,000 vines per hectare, in order to encourage competition among the plants and force them to go deep with their roots in search of water and nutrients. The vineyards have an average age of about 30 years and were almost all created with a mass selection of the oldest plants of the estate. In 1992, herbicides and chemicals were eliminated. After three years of conversion, in 1998 the Domaine obtained organic certification and since 1995 biodynamic agricultural practices have also been used. All vineyard work is done manually, from winter pruning to harvesting.
