Kracher
The winery of the Kracher family stands among the best in Austria for the production of sweet wines. It is located in Burgenland, in the small village of Illmitz. The region is characterized by a particular climate that favors the development of noble rot: strong afternoon winds alternate with the nighttime humidity due to the proximity of Lake Neusiedl. Founded by Alois Kracher, today the winery is managed by his son Gerhard with the help of his wife Yvonne and mother Michaela. Gerhard lovingly preserves the family tradition while constantly seeking new ideas to experiment with.
The Kracher winery produces two types of wines: Cuvée, medium concentration sweet wines, such as Eiswein, made from completely frozen grapes, and Beerenauslese; Kollektion, very concentrated sweet wines, such as Trockenbeerenauslese. Two different methods are used for production: Zwischen den Seen ("between the lakes"), traditional with fermentation in steel or large wooden barrels, which gives the wines freshness, fruity aromas, and primary scents; "Nouvelle Vague", modern with the use of new barriques and greater air exchange during maturation, which allows for the production of intense and spicy wines. Kracher harvests and vinifies small batches, using a numerical series to distinguish them: a higher number corresponds to a greater concentration of the wine.
The wines of Kracher are unique, complex, stunning wines. Their charm lies in the acidity, which is higher than that of Sauternes, giving them extraordinary freshness and pleasantness on the palate.
