La Massa

La Massa was born from the personal revolution of Giampaolo Motta, who with his powerful personality decided to invest in a dream. Raised in a family linked to the leather industry, after a brief career within the company he decided to dedicate his efforts entirely to his passion. He studied chemistry at the enological institute of Bordeaux, from whose labels he remained enchanted. The dream of bringing to Italy the know-how absorbed across the Alps began, and thus he started a period of apprenticeship at some well-known Chianti companies, subsequently purchasing the Azienda Agricola La Massa. After ten years, he left the Chianti Classico Consortium, now with the sole idea of experimenting with the Bordeaux soul with scientific respect for details.

The labels of La Massa come from soils rich in galestro, a common condition throughout the Chianti Classico territory. Less known is that this type of soil is actually very varied and diversified by micro components, which often constitute a “terroir” with independent characteristics.Equally ignored is that it was the Medici Family who imported the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from France as early as the 16th century, which is why this winery decided to accompany them with the cultivation of Sangiovese. The grapes are harvested at different times, starting from late August for the earliest ones like Merlot, until mid-October for Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. All blends are aged in French oak barriques, giving them a personality that leaves strong memories.

La Massa, with its wines, shines a spotlight on a different conception of the Tuscan wine landscape. “La Massa” is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot and represents the meeting of the rustic character of Chianti with the soul of Bordeaux, becoming almost the manifesto of Giampaolo Motta's idea. “Giorgio Primo”, which is primarily a Bordeaux blend, constitutes the superb demonstration of the entrepreneur's abilities, who gathers all his knowledge into a single bottle.and his own passion in the tender memory of his grandfather, to whom he had promised to dedicate a great wine. He succeeded brilliantly.
