Lagravera
In the far west of Catalonia, in the province of Lleida, Bodega Lagravera operates with maximum respect for nature and its cycles, driven by the desire to offer the most faithful and spontaneous expression of the Serra Llarga territory. The producers themselves like to define themselves as: “scientists by training and farmers by vocation”. Very active in the field of experimentation, Lagravera conducts microvinifications of rare and little-known grape varieties, in order to better understand their specific enological aptitudes and thus enhance the vast Catalan ampelographic platform.
The vineyards of the Lagravera winery are planted in 4 different subzones, heterogeneous from a pedological point of view. Vinya Nuria is characterized by the abundant presence of gravel and sand, interspersed with streaks of gypsum; in El Vinyet, clay, limestone pebbles, and gypsum dominate; the vines of Mas la Parra benefit from the abundance of silt, gypsum, and limestone; finally, the soils of the Les Pedrisses d’Ibars vineyard are of alluvial origin, with the presence of limestone pebbles and clay. The altitudes also vary, from 350 meters above sea level to as much as 800 meters at Mas la Parra. In the field, the dictates of organic and biodynamic agriculture, both certified, are followed. Of the over 20 grape varieties cultivated by the bodega, Garnacha Tinta, Monastrell, Garnacha Blanca, Macabeu, and Xarel-lo are the main ones. Lagravera is also active in enhancing rare autochthonous varieties at risk of extinction, such as X8, X Avi 1997, and X Avi 2167. The winemaking process is carried out in the least interventionist manner possible and with spontaneous fermentations, not shunning the use of non-invasive technologies.
There are various labels proposed, all united by a charming expressive breadth. Just to mention a few, the 'La Pell' line includes bottles crafted from extremely rich blends of different grape varieties, while the 'Ciclic' selection consists of a white wine and a red monovarietal, respectively from Garnacha Blanca and Garnacha Tinta, both aged in wooden barrels.
