Maison Peguet
Maison Peguet is an original family-run French estate operating in Burgundy, producing fine Chablis and Crémant de Bourgogne even though the winery is located near Lyon, significantly further south, specifically within the municipality of Porte des Pierres Dorées. The ownership of the Maison is in the hands of the two brothers Benjamin and Cyril Peguet, descendants of a family of producers, bottlers, and wine merchants. The Peguet brothers manage approximately 5 hectares in the Chablis area, at the extreme north of Burgundy, and oversee another 3 in various plots scattered throughout the rest of Burgundy. Maison Peguet collaborates with small local winemakers, related or closely tied by friendship, always operating under the banner of quality.
The total of 8 hectares of vineyards available to Maison Peguet is thus distributed between the Chablis area and various plots scattered throughout the rest of Burgundy. In Chablis, the climate is cool and continental, while the soils are of the characteristic kimmeridgian type, characterized by an abundance of clay, limestone, and marine fossils. Instead, the grapes destined for the Crémant come from clayey, limestone, and stony soils and are cultivated in a milder climate. The core of the estate's varietal platform is Chardonnay, a white grape variety symbolizing Burgundy's wine culture alongside Pinot Noir. In the winery, Chardonnay is processed in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to enhance its natural freshness and elegant mineral signature. The wines destined for sparkling wines are subsequently subjected to bottle fermentation according to the Metodo Classico.
The production of Maison Peguet is rather limited and includes straight, clean, and refined Chablis, with a vibrant mineral vein, as well as creamy and lively Crémant de Bourgogne, with notable balance and finesse. Through its labels, Maison Peguet aims to showcase two different faces of Burgundy Chardonnay, united by remarkable overall quality.
