Marques de Caceres
Founded by Enrique Forner in 1970 within the municipality of Cenicero, in Rioja Alta, from the very beginning the Marqués de Caceres winery set a single goal: to pursue quality to obtain the best wines. The intertwining between the Forner family and the world of wine began as early as the early 1900s with Enrique's grandfather and father, who in Valencia founded the 'Vinicola Forner' winery. Enrique, after a series of viticultural experiences in France, where he was exiled due to the Spanish Civil War, returned to his homeland deciding to start his project in Rioja with the advice of his friend and renowned Bordeaux winemaker Emile Peynaud. Marqués de Caceres was one of the first bodegas in Rioja to export its wines to the United States and is now led by Enrique's daughter, Cristina Forner. The philosophy has remained the same: to look to the future to produce great wines, without being corrupted by fleeting trends. In this perspective, the Forner family continues to invest heavily in sector technologies and in the expansion of the estate, which in 2014 acquired as many as 125 hectares of vineyard in Rueda, between Serrada and La Seca, in the autonomous community of Castile and Leon.
In the Rioja area, Marqués de Caceres controls almost 1,000 hectares of vineyards, managed by growers from the Region with whom it has maintained close commercial relationships since its inception. Here, the estate mainly cultivates Tempranillo for black grape varieties, and Viura among white grapes, with vines that often exceed 30 years of age. In the Rueda wine area, the bodega mainly cultivates Verdejo, with smaller percentages of Sauvignon Blanc, from 30-40 year old vines planted in soils mostly composed of gravel and sand. Monitoring, both in the vineyard and in the winery, is careful and rigorous, solely for the purpose of making the right decisions at the right time to maximize the quality of the finished product.
Marqués de Caceres offers a wide and diversified range of wines, with bottles that are exported to over 120 countries around the world. Whether they are white or red,
