Masia de la Roqua

In the splendid Mediterranean setting of Catalonia, the artisanal winery Masia de la Roqua offers authentic and genuine expressions, driven by the desire to produce wines that reflect the unique territory of Massis del Garraf, a mountain range located between the cities of Barcelona and Tarragona. Documents attest that the farm has been dedicated to agricultural production since the 12th century and today, in addition to vines, it is committed to the cultivation of almond and olive trees. The structure is built on a rocky cliff and was therefore previously called “Mas de la Roca”, meaning “house of the rock”. The winemaking philosophy places the vine as the cornerstone of the production process, with cellar operations aimed solely at enhancing what the vineyard and the land offer.

The vineyards of Masia de la Roqua are planted on shallow clay-limestone soils and the plants, surrounded by woods and scrub, enjoy the Mediterranean climate and the constant influence of sea breezes. Strong with organic certification, the estate is committed to performing soil work that respects the environment and promote biodiversity. The grape varieties cultivated by the bodega are numerous and include: Macabeu, Xarel-lo, Parellada, Malvasia de Sitges, and Moscato among the white grapes, Sumoll, Ull de Llebre (Tempranillo), Garnatxa Negre, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Marselan among the black grapes. In the cellar, the operations involve minimal intervention, with the masses being bottled without undergoing any clarification or filtration.

Just as numerous are the cultivated varieties, the selection of labels is also very wide and varied, including white, red, and orange wines. Certain bottles come from a single variety while others are from a blend of multiple grapes. Some, thanks to their extraordinary immediacy, are designed to be enjoyed in youth, while others can withstand years of further aging in the cellar. Regardless of the label, the production of Masia de la Roqua faithfully reflects the territory and a movement, that of Catalan artisanal wines, which has transformed from a trend to certainty.
