Sopla Levante

Sopla Levante is part of an original project, which under the brand Rodriguez de Vera, brings together a series of Spanish wine realities. The idea of creating this winery was born in 2000 from the collaboration of four friends, who were already working professionally in the wine world: Pepe Rodríguez de Vera, Hilarión Pedauyé, Álvaro Ruiz, and Alberto Soriano. The estate was created to offer a range of quality wines, capable of expressing the best characteristics of the fine terroirs of Spain and in particular the area of Valencia, where the spread of large wineries working with industrial logic risked progressively destroying an ancient heritage of artisanal knowledge, passed down through generations over the centuries.

Thus, Sopla Levante was born, precisely to try to curb this trend and enhance the customs of past viticulture. To make these ideas operational and concrete, we started from one of the historical places in the area, the La Mata Natural Park in Alicante, which in the past could count on over 250 hectares of vineyards and today has been reduced to only 35. It is a unique and charming place, with vineyards cultivated a short distance from the Mediterranean coast and the salt flats, on predominantly sandy soils, with clay components and very rich in pebbles, which make them draining. The particular terroir and the sunny climate, mitigated only by the sea breezes, constitute a perfect habitat for the vine.

As for the grape varieties, only those typical of the area have been chosen: Bobal, Monastrell, Cariñena, Valenci Negre and other rare indigenous varieties such as Gustico de Elche, Valencí Negre, Esclafagerre, Parrell, Forcallat and Crujidera. The vineyards extend over a total area of 15 hectares at an altitude rising up to 800 meters above sea level. At the base of the project is mainly passion and not profit maximization. The work in the vineyard is carried out with the intent to best enhance the grapes with rather low yields and good aromatic concentrations, essential for making wines ofquality and character, which are able to express and reflect the character of the terroir. In the cellar, we work with parcel microvinifications. The fermentations take place only with indigenous yeasts and without the use of sulfur dioxide
