Tenuta di Collosorbo

The Tenuta di Collosorbo is a leading winery for wine production in Montalcino. It was founded in 1995 by a hereditary division of the Tenuta di Sesta, an important production reality to be counted among the pioneers of the Brunello di Montalcino denomination. Today, Collosorbo is managed by an all-female branch of the historic Ciacci family, winemakers since 1850: Giovanna Ciacci is the owner of the estate, managed together with her daughters Laura, an oenologist, and Lucia, an agronomist. Together they form a winning team that has become, in recent years, an important reference point for wine lovers around the world. The secret of this success is illustrated by the three women: “deciding something by common agreement is often a desperate undertaking. But all three of us believe in people and in the teamwork that has made our wines great over the years.”

The Tenuta di Collosorbo is located on the southern slope of Montalcino, in that warmest area of the denomination that looks towards Monte Amiata and is influenced bybeneficial marine influences. In this area, Sangiovese gives life to particularly rich and generous wines, endowed with power, warmth, and structure. The calcareous-clay soils, rich in iron and pebbles, contribute to an expressive, elegant, and mineral organoleptic profile. The vineyards extend for about 30 hectares: they enjoy good ventilation and are surrounded by a dense forest.

The winery of the Tenuta di Collosorbo is located in small underground caves carved into tuff of probable Etruscan origin. Here all production operations take place: destemming, soft pressing, fermentation in steel tanks, and long macerations with frequent pump-overs. The aging of the produced wines usually occurs in large Slavonian oak barrels of 12 and 57 hectoliters. Thus, elegant and complex wines are born, endowed with remarkable longevity but also characterized by a generous character, typical of this micro-terroir, which makes them enjoyable even right away.
