Terrazas de Los Andes

Terrazas de Los Andes is an Argentine winery located in Perdriel, managing a magnificent estate with vineyards cultivated at the foot of the majestic peaks of the Andes mountain range. Argentine viticulture has very ancient origins, and its symbolic grape, Malbec, was introduced to the country around the mid-nineteenth century. The winery was created in 1898 by Sotero Arizu, but the recent history of Terrazas de Los Andes began in 1960 when the famous French group Moët & Chandon decided to invest in Argentina, aware of the extraordinary potential of this land. The estate is composed of several vineyards located in particularly suitable areas, in Luján de Cuyo in Mendoza and in the Uco Valley.

The winery is situated in an absolutely unique territory, within a wild and extreme natural context. The vineyards are located at altitude, on poor, rocky soils, low in organic matter. The climate is very sunny, with hot days and cold nights, which favor slow ripening and allow for the preservation of high acidity. Each variety is cultivated in the area most suitable for soils and microclimate, in order to obtain grapes of excellent quality. The vineyards are divided into various parcels to enable precision viticulture and highlight the nuances of the terroir. The property is divided into numerous estates, which constitute individual and particular productive units.

The El Yaima vineyard is located in San Carlos, in the Uco Valley area, at an altitude of 1020 meters. The soils are sandy, silty, and rich in skeleton, perfect for Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Manseng, and Syrah. Los Castaños is situated in Paraje Altamira at 1100 meters altitude. It is a wonderful terraced vineyard planted in 1945 on very draining soils of limestone, stones, and clay, which produce a very intense and expressive Malbec. The El Pedregal vineyard is the rockiest of all, located at 1080 meters in the southern area of the Uco Valley, and thanks to significant temperature excursions, it yields exceptional quality Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The Lican estate is located at a well 1250 meters above sea level. It is characterized by a stony soil, made up of pebbles that make it very draining. In these extreme conditions, Malbec expresses itself with concentration and finesse. Caicayen is located in the Gualtallary district, in the northern area of the Uco Valley at 1200 meters high. The cool climate with strong temperature fluctuations, in addition to Malbec, is very suitable for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The El Espinillo vineyard is located at 1630 and is characterized by calcareous and rocky soils, perfect for producing Malbec, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Nero, and Chardonnay of great finesse. The vines of Los Alamos are the cradle of Cabernet Sauvignon, while the old vines of Las Compuertas and Los Cerezos give a rich and concentrated Malbec. Finally, the Cafayate vineyard located in Salta, with its 1800 meters, is the highest of the estate. The very cool climate and sandy and clayey soils, rich in pebbles, make it ideal for Torrontés.
