Vite ad Ovest
The Vite ad Ovest winery is located in the western part of Sicily, between the municipalities of Marsala and Marzara di Vallo. In 2013, Vincenzo Angileri decided to unify his centuries-old lands with the historic lands of his wife Giusi's family into a single property of about five hectares fragmented into six different areas. Initially, production was limited and reserved for small local realities. The turning point of 2013 led to the decision to expand wine sales and target a larger market. The winery's goal is to produce wines in full respect of the old family tradition that are expressive and pure, capable of reflecting the Sicilian territorial identity.
The Vite ad Ovest winery is immersed in the gentle plains that do not exceed 200 meters in altitude, where the sea breeze cradles the vines trained as bush vines. The yields per hectare are low, and the winery's choice is to work with local grape varieties, two whites Catarratto and Grillo, and two red grapes Nero d’Avola and Nerello Mascalese.
The grape harvest is manual, and no form of chemical treatment is practiced; the grapes grow healthy without herbicides, insecticides, and weed killers, with only a limited and wise use of sulfur and necessarily copper. The same philosophy is applied in the winery, where human interventions are kept to a minimum: indigenous yeasts, skin macerations, and no filtration, stabilization, or clarification. The wines are marine, fresh, and rich in color, capable of best telling the story of this fantastic piece of Sicilian land.
