Weingut Bergkloster
The “respect for Nature” is the fundamental value that characterizes the productive spirit of the family-run wine estate Bergkloster. At the helm of this German winery today is the fifth generation, represented by the young Jason Groebe, who passionately and enthusiastically pursues the essence of life, starting with his wines. Because man depends on nature, which he cannot control, but must patiently and humbly follow. Jason is part of the new wave of artisanal producers in the Rheinhessen region, strongly intent on allowing the territory they cultivate to express itself fully. After completing an apprenticeship at the prestigious Wittmann winery, he studied viticulture and oenology at the University of Geisenheim before fully dedicating himself to the family estate.
Weingut Bergkloster has been cultivating according to the principles of organic farming since 2006, but it was in 2018, with Jason, that the winery embarked on the path of minimal oenological intervention. The grape varieties include Riesling, the symbolic grape of Germany, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, Saint Laurent, and the genetic hybrids Huxelrebe, Bacchus, Regent, and Cabernet Dorsa, all created in German wine institutes. In the winery, fermentations occur spontaneously, and throughout the entire winemaking and maturation process, no oenological additives are added, including sulfites, and no clarifications or filtrations are performed. For aging, Jason uses both steel tanks and large oak barrels, depending on the label in question.
Bergkloster winery offers various types of wine, including lightly macerated whites, a practice contrary to German tradition. Thus take shape straightforward and sincere interpretations that reflect Jason's unconventional spirit.
