Zisola - Mazzei
Zisola is a Sicilian wine estate born from the foresight of the Marchesi Mazzei near Noto, magnificent area rich in history and culture. The Tuscan Mazzei family, producing wine for over six centuries, recognized the great viticultural potential of the Noto area by launching the ambitious wine project Zisola in 2003. Integrating into a tradition dating back over 2,500 years, when the Greeks colonized the territory starting to cultivate the vine, the winery has managed to establish itself thanks to the high quality of its wines. The three bagli of the estate, surrounded by gardens of citrus fruits, olive trees, and almond trees, offer a distant view of the town of Noto. In addition to wine, the winery produces a delicious EVO oil and a sought-after Sicilian grappa.
The Zisola - Mazzei estate spans 24 hectares of vineyards, planted using the traditional alberello system on medium-textured calcareous soils, characterized by a high skeleton content. The Mediterranean climate and the constant presence of breezes give the grapes the perfect conditions for optimal ripening. With a view to safeguarding the environment and the genuineness of the produced wines, the agronomic management adopted excludes the use of chemical synthetic products. Based on these environmental and viticultural premises, the winery mainly cultivates Nero d’Avola, a famous grape variety that seems to have originated precisely in the Syracusan areas of Noto and Pachino, alongside which other local varieties such as Grillo and Catarratto, as well as international grapes like Syrah and Petit Verdot, are found. Fermentations take place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, while for the subsequent aging periods, mainly barriques or tonneaux of oak, both first and more passes, are used.
Thus enveloping wines, flavorful and of beautiful complexity signed Zisola - Mazzei, full expression of the baroque richness of southeastern Sicily. Each label is an expression of a single variety, with the Nero d’Avola dominating the selection.
