The Sauvignon Blanc 'Seaward' by Spier comes from vineyards overlooking the Atlantic Ocean along the South African coast. The vines, with an average age of 15 years, benefit from constant sea breezes that help define an elegant and crisp expression of the grape variety. The winemaking exclusively uses free-run juice, followed by controlled temperature fermentation in steel and four months of aging on the fine lees. The nose reveals notes of green fig, ripe tropical fruit, and delicate citrus hints. The palate is fresh, balanced, and characterized by a pleasant salinity. It pairs particularly well with pickled fish, a traditional South African preparation of marinated fish and spices.
