Abbia Nova
Abbia Nova is an artisanal reality that produces wines with a territorial face in one of the most vocated areas for viticulture in Lazio. It is a true traditional agricultural company, cultivating vineyards, olive groves, vegetables, and medicinal herbs. The property is divided into several plots, all of medium-small size, allowing for the cultivation of each variety in the most suitable and vocated place, in order to always achieve the highest quality. The estates are located in the municipality of Piglio, in the province of Frosinone, about forty kilometers south of Rome. The area is situated in the hilly inland that rises towards the first pre-Apennine reliefs, towards the border with Abruzzo, in a land that has always been very suitable for vine cultivation.
Each parcel of the estate is managed as a self-contained unit, precisely to maximize its microclimatic characteristics and soil qualities. Four plots are dedicated to viticulture: San Giovanni, Cercione, Collepasso, Vignali. The tradition of the vine in these lands have ancient origins. Introduced by the ancient Romans, the culture of the vine has been passed down through the centuries, especially thanks to the activity of the monks. The Benedictine Monastery of Santa Scolastica has played a fundamental role in preserving the ancient knowledge of vineyard management and wine production. In this area, there has been for centuries a very interesting native red grape, which has recently come to light at the national level: the Cesanese del Piglio.
Abbia Nova has preserved the tradition of the vine, enhancing its best qualities. The vocated soils, the cool, sunny, and always well-ventilated climate, favor the development of quality viticulture.
