Calabretta

The Calabretta family’s winery is one of the oldest on the northern slope of Etna, particularly in Randazzo. Since 1900, the Calabretta family has been producing very territorial high-quality wines without ever compromising on conventional viticulture and production models and without chasing trends. We are talking about a wine cellar closely tied to Sicilian traditions, now led by Massimo Calabretta along with his son Massimiliano, a skilled and passionate winemaker, very inclined to experimentation.

The philosophy of the Calabretta family is based on love and respect for the terroir. The vineyards are located at 680-730 meters above sea level on black volcanic sand and are populated by grass, wild plants, broom, mountain flowers, prickly pears, crickets, wasps, and wild rabbits. The only products used are sulfur and copper sulfate while manual pruning ensures very low yields per hectare, around 30/50 quintals. The terraces are divided by ancient dry stone walls and picturesque paths.impassable that allow you to cross the vineyards.

In the Calabretta family’s cellar, arranged underground on multiple levels and carved out of volcanic rock, no enotechnical products are used and the aging occurs exclusively in very old barrels, so as not to alter and cover the aromatic profile of the grapes and the peculiarities of the terroir. This is how very territorial and charming wines are born, endowed with significant minerality, with the unmistakable flavor of the tradition of one of the best terroirs in all of Sicily.
