Château Saint-Maur

Chateau Saint Maur is one of the historic Provençal landmarks that Roger Zannier, owner of Quinta do Pessegueiro in the Douro Valley, decided to transform into a wine oasis in 2004. Under the guidance of Marc Monrose, Roger's son-in-law, this precious jewel of Provence is located in Cogolin, a small and picturesque village on the French Riviera, which connects the slopes of the majestic Maures Massif to the Gulf of Saint Tropez (just 10 km from the city). A place seemingly destined for grape cultivation, where sea breezes nurture the vine's growth throughout the year, tempering the summer heat, while the mountains shield the hills from the cold northern winds. On these fertile lands, viticulture dates back to ancient times, as evidenced by some Gallo-Roman remains found on the estate, where for centuries some of the local varieties have been grown and are still cultivated today by the Domaine: Syrah, Cinsault, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and many others. The landscape visible from these hills is truly a medicine for the mind and body, conveying serenity and calm, with a scenic park of vineyards that blankets the hills, merging into the Mediterranean scrub and extending towards the sea. In the background, before reaching the mountains, the Grimaud Castle dominates from the top of a hill, overlooking the village of the same name.

The icing on the cake is the historic castle that gives its name to Domaine Chateau Saint-Maur, nestled among vineyards and situated opposite the new and modern winery. Established in 2013, the maison is now considered one of the most important representatives of the Cotes de Provence appellation. The cellar's basement reaches a depth of 10 meters, where winemaking and aging activities are concentrated. The vines, facing east-west, take root in predominantly clay-limestone soils that become more sandy and silty as they approach the sea. Noteworthy is the 12-hectare plot, named Clos de Capelune, regarded by the winery as a unique and highly esteemed terroir.

The wines of Chateau Saint Maur are clear expressions and brilliant, playing on finesse and elegance, infused with fresh and marine notes. They are bottles with curvy and seductive lines, just like the romantic Provençal hills!
