De Sanctis

The historic winery De Sanctis has been producing wines since 1816. It is located south of Rome, immersed in the green countryside of Frascati, in the area of the ancient Lake Regillo. Today the winery is run by Luigi De Sanctis and his son Francesco.

In the vineyard, which has a total area of 10 hectares, the typical varieties of the territory are cultivated according to organic farming methods: Malvasia del Lazio, Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano Toscano, Bombino, and Cabernet Franc. The vines grow on volcanic soils and are trained using the double guyot method. The oldest vines are between 45 and 55 years old, while the others were planted from 1991 onwards. In order to achieve a product of excellence, all activities in the vineyard and winery are carried out with extremely meticulous care and according to the Km 0 philosophy. Once harvested in baskets or crates, the grapes travel a few meters to the winery. Here they are placed on a conveyor belt that gently carries them to machines that ensure the crushing process and then fermentation occurs in the established times and ways. The winemaking process is also organic: the grape juice is not contaminated by the addition of additives. The result is a high-quality wine with its own natural stability. A highly innovative feature for the production of De Sanctis wines is the geothermal system with buried horizontal probes that, exchanging heat with the subsoil and drastically reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, makes the winery a virtuous example of a truly low environmental impact structure.

The elements that most characterize the De Sanctis winery are respect for the territory and natural cycles, tradition and winemaking technologies, and maximum attention to the production phases. From all this, excellent fruity and aromatic wines are obtained, with pleasant mineral notes and a balanced freshness.
