Dionisio Fabrizio
Fabrizio Dionisio is today a reference point for Syrah produced in the territory of Cortona. The family estate populated by vineyards and olive groves, purchased by Fabrizio's father in the 1970s, has become since 2000 a productive reality of excellence, among those that have best enhanced the happy combination of the Syrah grape and the terroir of Cortona. Fabrizio's project, a brilliant Roman lawyer with a passion for good wine and for Tuscany, has been to produce red wines that combine a French elegance with the intense and generous character of Tuscan origin, particularly from Cortona. An ambitious project achieved in a few years, which has led him, from a rising star of Tuscan oenology, to take on a leading role in enhancing the international grape variety in Tuscan land.
Fabrizio Dionisio's property is divided into two estates, in the nearby locations of Il Castagno and Poggio del Sole, situated on the gentle hills of Val di Chiana at about 300 meters above sea level. The total of 15 hectares of vineyard are all reserved for Syrah and are cultivated under a certified organic regime. The winery is located within the farm in the locality of Il Castagno, the beating heart of the activity, where the barrel cellar is also found. The fermentations occur spontaneously in most cases, using only indigenous yeasts, and never last more than two weeks, with long macerations on the skins. The aging in barriques allows these interpretations of Syrah to achieve an intense elegance of French inspiration, where concentration and aromatic articulation prevail over warmth and Mediterranean softness.
The wines of Fabrizio Dionisio are expressions of high-level Syrah that stand out for strength, energy, and elegance not only in the Tuscan wine scene but also in the international one. Besides the Castagno and Castagnino, which have now become classics and certainties, the Cuculaia is produced only in the best vintages, a rich, powerful, and very complex expression. The spicy grape par excellence has thus greatly rewarded those who, for almost twenty years, have dedicated exclusive attention to it.
