Duca di Salaparuta
Duca di Salaparuta has represented the most rooted and recognized Sicilian winemaking tradition since 1824, linking its name to that of Corvo and Florio.
A reality that has its physical headquarters in Casteldaccia, in the province of Palermo, but has land holdings spread throughout the island, from the slopes of Etna to the Gulf of Gela and up to Trapani. A deep and rooted terroir choice that has allowed each vineyard to produce its best fruit in the naturally most suitable conditions for its needs.
Duca di Salaparuta acts as a spokesperson, with its zoning work, for a Sicily rich in heterogeneity and biodiversity, capable of offering different interpretations of the same grape variety when cultivated in different areas. In 2001, the Vajasindi Estate was purchased in the Passopisciaro district, in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, with the desire to test Pinot Nero grapes at altitudes reaching 800 meters and on volcanic soils. The wine they have been able to create is rich in mineral notes and freshness, without losing the classic finesse that has always characterized this variety. In 2002, two more estates were purchased: Suor Marchesa in Riesi and Risignolo in Salemi, and simultaneously investments were made in the expansion and renovation of the historic cellars in Casteldaccia.
In the winery, over time, the highest quality standards have been achieved, such as the use of cold during the maceration phase of the grapes, to counteract the distance between the vineyard and the areas designated for winemaking and to stop any unwanted fermentation and the consequent oxidation of the fruit's aromatic precursors right from the start. Furthermore, all production processes, from the arrival of the grapes to the storage of the bottles, are subjected to advanced computer supervision to ensure precise traceability of the product.
In recent years, Duca di Salaparuta's portfolio of references has grown, along with new ranges and labels, with an increasingly international outlook, without ever losing sight of that unique and territorial style on which it has always been based.
