Estezargues

Estezargues is a splendid reality of the southern Rhône Valley, which brings together many small winemakers from the area, each with their own peculiarities and ways of working. It is a cooperative association that has been managing a winery together for over twenty years, producing wines without the addition of additives, with spontaneous fermentations and the use of only indigenous yeasts. All wines are bottled without clarification or filtration, in order to preserve their natural integrity. The particular structure of the association, which preserves the individuality of each single vigneron, allows for a very varied range of wines. Some labels are made individually by each producer, while some cuvées are an assembly of grapes from multiple estates.

The production area includes the municipalities of Domazan, Estézargues, Rochefort du Gard, Saze and falls within the AOC Côtes du Rhône Villages Signargues, created in 2004. An important recognitionimportant, which highlights and enhances the particular pedoclimatic conditions of this magnificent terroir located south of Avignon and the famous area of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, surrounded by lush spontaneous Mediterranean scrub vegetation. From a geological point of view, the entire region was created over the millennia by the course of the Rhône, which, with its tumultuous flow from the Alps to the Mediterranean Sea, transported and deposited in the flatter area a huge quantity of debris, gravel, and pebbles, which have settled on older and deeper substrates composed of sands and clays.

The vineyard of the denomination extends in the area between the city of Avignon and the aqueduct of Pont du Gard, one of the most imposing architectures left by the presence of ancient Rome in these lands. The climate is typically Mediterranean, warm, dry, and always very windy due to the presence of the Mistral blowing from the northwest towards the sea and the mild breezes rising from the coast. The soils are characterized bythe presence of the famous galtes roulés, that is, pebbles smoothed by the water of the Rhône, which make the lands poor and very draining, particularly suitable for quality viticulture with low natural yields. The stones accumulate heat during the day and release it to the vines at night, maintaining a temperature suitable for perfect ripening of the grapes. The most cultivated grape varieties are the classic ones of the area: Carignan, Cinsault, Counoise, Mourvèdre, Grenache noir, and Syrah.
