Fucci Elena
Elena Fucci is a prominent producer in the wine scene of Vulture, in Basilicata, skilled in working through a modern style while respecting the character of the territory and the principal variety of the area: Aglianico. The winery was officially founded with the 2000 harvest in Barile, in the province of Potenza, after Elena Fucci, unable to tolerate the fact that her family wanted to sell the beautiful vineyards surrounding the home where she grew up, purchased in the 1960s by her grandfather Generoso, invested energy and money to start her own winemaking project focused on quality, after decades in which the grapes were destined for direct sale. Once she discovered the desire to take care of the vineyards by starting a winemaking production, Elena's parents showed enthusiasm and support, assisting her in her studies in Viticulture and Oenology and in her choices.
The estate managed by the Lucanian producer Elena Fucci has just over 7 hectares of vineyards located in Contrada Solagna del Titolo, at the foot of Vulture, and is entirely dedicated to to Aglianico, a grape variety planted on black soils made up of layers of ash, clays, and volcanic rocks, particularly rich in mineral elements. In addition to the peculiar geological component, the vines benefit from high altitudes exceeding 600 meters above sea level. The vines are very old, some over 70 years of age, and are cultivated sustainably without the use of any synthetic chemicals. Both in the vineyard and in the winery, meticulous and accurate practices are adopted, aimed at maximizing the quality of production while always respecting the unique territorial and varietal characteristics. For vinification, stainless steel tanks are used, while for the subsequent aging periods, mostly barriques or oak tonneaux are employed, but also terracotta amphorae.
