Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara

In the territory of San Gimignano, land of Vernaccia, lies the family-run reality Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara, committed to enhancing the area through sustainable viticulture. The origins of the estate are due to Mario Logi, a farmer who in the second half of the '900 began to dedicate himself to the breeding and cultivation of various plant species. The strictly wine-growing direction was taken only in 2002, when Alessio Logi, Mario's son, after completing his oenological studies, took the reins of the business together with his older brothers Giampiero and Stefano. Strong also with the advice of the oenologist Nicola Berti, the Logi began various experiments, while always remaining connected to the character of the place and its principal grape: Vernaccia.

The Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara estate extends over 22 hectares of vineyards, mainly reserved for Vernaccia, alongside other traditional varieties such as Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Trebbiano Toscano, and Malvasia del Chianti, as well as the international grape varieties Cabernet Francand Merlot. The vineyards, rooted in soils composed of sands, clays, pebbles, gravels, and limestones, are entirely managed under certified organic regime and are located on 6 different plots: San Donato, Bacicolo, Pescille, Campo della Pieve, Colombaio, and Cotone. As for the processing of Vernaccia, the bunches are vinified whole with alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks, cement tanks, or large oak barrels, the same type of containers where the maturation process on fine lees takes place. For aging the reds, oak barriques are also used.

The wines of the Il Colombaio di Santa Chiara winery express all the Tuscan essence they have behind them. The production focus is represented by Vernaccia di San Gimignano, a denomination interpreted in three different variations, particularly the Riserva ‘L’Albereta’ stands out for complexity and character. The range of labels is completed by two Chianti Colli Senesi, two so-called “Supertuscans”, a refreshing rosé wine, onesparkling wine Metodo Charmat and a delicious passito wine.
