Il Farneto

Il Farneto represents a small winemaking reality in Emilia, conducted in a genuine and artisanal manner by Marco Bertoni, a winemaker who started his winemaking project in the early '90s in Castellarano, a municipality in the province of Reggio Emilia located near the Secchia River. From the very beginning, the productive vision that Marco firmly wanted to embrace was based on respect for nature and its cycles, in a sincere perspective of sustainable agriculture. The name of the estate derives from the homonymous plateau on which the vineyards extend, between the hills of Scandiano and Canossa, a territory rich in biodiversity.

The Il Farneto estate covers about 35 hectares of land, of which 8 hectares are reserved for viticulture, with vineyards surrounded by woods and fossil ravines, enjoying a particularly sunny and breezy climate. The vines are rooted in fertile soils with a mixed clayey, loamy, and sandy texture, located about 250 meters above sea level. In this environmental context, Marco Bertoni cultivates Spergola and Sauvignon Blanc among the white grape varieties.white, Marzemino, Lambrusco Barghi, Lambrusco Grasparossa, and Lambrusco Maestri among the red grapes, varieties cultivated strictly following the principles of biodynamic agriculture. In the cellar, alcoholic fermentation is entrusted exclusively to indigenous yeasts, with the process primarily taking place in steel tanks, and in the sparkling wines and refermented in bottle, only must is used, thus avoiding the use of exogenous sugars. Following the same genuinely minimalist approach, the use of clarification or filtration operations is strictly excluded, as is the use of enological aids and additives, except for minimal doses of sulfur as needed. Marco's goal is indeed to offer the purest and most uncontaminated expression of the territory he cultivates, interpreted according to his style.
