Kamm Jean-Louis et Eric
With Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm, we land in Alsace, in Dambach-la-Ville, 20 kilometers north of Colmar. A family affair of small and artisanal dimensions - seven hectares of property divided into different and portioned parcels - that has been passed down from father to son and from son to grandson. A story that repeats itself: the parents were already working organically, without using herbicides or synthetic products, in full respect of the environment and the ecosystem. The current generation takes over this package, already well underway, and dares: they work without sulfur and forget about filtration, they leap over conventions with audacity and pierce the hearts of those brave drinkers, free of any kind of taste prejudice.
The wines of Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm strike you from the first sip, with vibrant acidity and bright minerality, and their profile is so fascinating and territorial, it remains etched in your mind for a long time. Compared to the classic calcareous composition of the soils in Alsace, here in Dambach-la-Ville the soils are rich in granite with higher average altitudes, reaching 500 meters above sea level in some points. In the glass, one does not seek power nor softness: on the contrary, these wines are more than ever straight, vertical, lively, and unforgettable in their minerality. They are interpretations perhaps distant from the standards of Alsace that we are more accustomed to appreciating; they are the portrait of the bond that the Kamm family has long established with that piece of land and seeks to keep alive, fleeing from trendy fashions and embracing only the integrity of flavor. In the vineyard, they remain faithful to the varieties most rooted in the region, with Pinot Grigio, Riesling, Auxerrois, Moscato, Gewurztraminer, and Pinot Nero in pole position. In the cellar, alcoholic fermentations are activated using only yeasts naturally present on the skins of the grapes, without any temperature control, in stainless steel containers or in concrete tanks.
Jean-Louis et Eric Kamm, with their wines, continue to celebrate the natural vocation of the Alsatian land, with simple and always recognizable: acidic shoulder, mineral drive, varietal typicity, and a pinch of anarchy!
