Sfusobuono

Sfusobuono was founded in October 2020, inspired by an idea from Alessandra Costa, a sommelier from Alessandria who studied at the University of Pollenzo. The name comes from a joke made by her father, who would ask at the bar, ‘Give me a glass of house wine, but a good one’: a request that became a promise, and then a genuine mission. During the pandemic, with many wineries at a standstill and barrels full of high-quality bulk wine, Alessandra realised that this wine deserved a second lease of life. Supported by Paolo Vaccarella, she set up the first Italian e-commerce site dedicated to bag-in-box wines from small, independent producers. Since then, the project has grown to bring together dozens of winemakers from almost every region.

The Sfusobuono selection is based on artisanal methods: small, independent producers who tend their vineyards with care, often using organic methods. These winemakers are chosen one by one, known personally rather than from a catalogue, and united by their respectful approach to working the land and minimal intervention in the cellar. Among the vine rows, priority is given to local grape varieties and measured techniques, because the quality of the wine is built first and foremost in the vineyard. Behind every selection, therefore, lies the same artisanal expertise that one would find in a bottle.

In the glass, the wines offered by Sfusobuono prioritise balance, freshness and a distinct drinkability: approachable and convivial interpretations, designed more for everyday dining than for ageing, with a range that also includes low-alcohol versions. Much of the credit goes to the packaging: the bag-in-box is a poly-laminated bag enclosed in a cardboard box, fitted with a tap, which protects the contents from light and oxygen. Once opened, it retains its quality for over thirty days, whilst the three-litre pack is equivalent to four bottles. Rounding off the picture is the environmental benefit: a much lower environmental impact than glass and recyclable packaging.
