Tenute Sella
Tenute Sella is not simply a historic winery, a landmark of Biella wine, but is an integral part of the history of Piemonte. While notarial documents attest to the acquisition of the vineyards by Comino Sella in 1671, from then on these historic lands have never ceased to develop and enhance themselves, culminating in the attainment of the DOC in 1976 for Lessona and in 1979 for Bramaterra.
The grapes of Nebbiolo, Croatina, Vespolina, and Erbaluce from Tenute Sella grow on the soils of Lessona and Bramaterra: the former predominantly sandy and with some of the highest acidity levels in the world, while in the latter, positioned further east, red porphyries of volcanic origin are found within a wooded setting rich in flora and wildlife. For the aging of the wines, 10/25 hectoliter Slavonian casks and partially new barriques are preferred, all following a strictly classic and traditional style.
The range of wines from Tenute Sella, remarkable for quality, includes the fascinating Bramaterra, garnet, with mineral iron notes and a full taste of red flowers, pomegranate, wild strawberries, and pepper. Of high quality is the Lessona San Sebastiano allo Zoppo, with an elegant floral impact, featuring notes of underbrush and juniper berries, cinchona, and licorice. A highlight is the Omaggio a Quintino Sella, produced exclusively in the best vintages and considered the "family reserve", dedicated to one of the architects of the Unification of Italy and a minister during the Risorgimento. The wines from Tenute Sella are historic wines that have graced many tables across different eras and have rarely disappointed anyone.
