Tua Rita
Tua Rita is a winery located in Val di Cornia and enjoys international fame for the excellent quality of its wines, particularly some of its labels, such as Merlot Redigaffi. Entrepreneur Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti purchased the land in 1984 with the intention of moving to a place where they could live in contact with nature, cultivating their own land. Thanks to their unbridled passion for wine, the original 2 hectares of vineyard grew to the current 30. Thus named simply by reversing the owner's first and last name, Tua Rita winery represents one of the first successful Italian realities developed on the model of “vin de garage”, where all production processes are conducted entirely autonomously and artisanally: small productions obtained with rigor, competence, and seriousness.
The training system of Tua Rita's vines alternates between simple spur cordon and double spur cordon. The defense of the vines follows the methods of organic farming with the goal of helping the plants defend themselves, ensuring first and foremost the health of the environment and the land. The use of plant protection products is indeed abolished. The soil on which the vines grow is mainly composed of skeleton, clay, silt, and sand and is rich in mineral microelements. The territorial characteristics of the Metalliferous Hills give Tua Rita's wines original iron notes and a nice saline character.
In the cellar, where the premises have been recently renovated, interventions are limited and minimally invasive. The selected grapes undergo a soft pressing and are then left to ferment in wooden vats. Once vinification is complete, the wine is transferred by gravity into the barriques located below the winemaking premises. Here, aging is carried out for at least 18 months. This results in wines where quality and tradition meet, artisanal and uncompromising expressions of the generous Maremma territory.
