Uggiano
Uggiano embodies within itself the identity that characterizes the great wineries located in the Chianti wine region, perhaps the most fascinating in terms of landscape in all of Italy. Founded in the early 1970s within the castle of Montespertoli, by a group of entrepreneurs from Bergamo with a passion for viticulture of typically Tuscan expression, Uggiano is entrusted to the skilled hands of the French-trained oenologist Giuseppe Losapio, who quickly sets the focus of the winery towards nothing less than qualitative excellence. Here, among the hills of Montespertoli, the slopes of Montelupo Fiorentino and San Casciano in Val di Pesa are situated the 80 hectares of vineyards owned by the company, while the operational winery is located just a little further north, in San Vincenzo a Torri.
Among the vineyards of Uggiano grow the grape varieties that distinguish the traditional yet innovative approach of the style dictated by the winery, also given by the use of international grape varieties for assemble in the winery territorial expressions with a cosmopolitan and contemporary breath and taste. The classic Sangiovese used for Chianti is accompanied, in various oenological interpretations, by small quantities of the indigenous Canaiolo, Mammolo, and Ciliegiolo as well as the international Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, also used in the production of Bordeaux-style labels, of great body and intensity.
All the grapes from Uggiano are then expertly processed by a team of winemakers led by Daniele Prosperi, constantly engaged in the relentless pursuit of qualitative excellence, before being transferred to the suggestive aging cellar, which houses wooden barrels from 30 to 60 hectoliters and French oak barriques from the regions of Allier, Nevers, and Vosges, dedicated to the long aging that the great reds undergo, aimed at becoming pure and great expressions of the magical Tuscan terroir of Chianti.
