Vina Pietra
Thanks to the courage and determination of the young Marko Tavčar, the wines of Vina Pietra are born in the harsh territory of the Slovenian Karst, near the town of Kreplije (which derives from kripa, stone). The winery extends over about 2 hectares located between Kreplje, Dutovlje, and Gorjiansko. In a place where agriculture and viticulture have historically existed and survived in difficult terrain and extreme weather conditions, and following a centuries-old winemaking tradition, the Vina Pietra winery embodies all the magical and heroic aura of the terroir of these lands.
With maximum craftsmanship and respect for the ecosystem and the environment, Marko Tavčar focuses on local indigenous grape varieties, such as Vitovska, Malvasjia Istriana, and Terrano. While the use of invasive substances and chemicals is banned in the vineyard, the same philosophy applies in the winery, limiting invasive interventions such as filtration and clarification and favoring the use of indigenous yeasts. The use of wooden barrels is limited and discreet. For white grape varieties (Vitovska, Malvasjia) - after a brief maceration and fermentation of the skins in wood - the aging takes place in stainless steel tanks. For the red grape variety (Terrano), the winemaking is predominantly in wood.
Thanks to the collaboration with Marko Fon, the project for the management of the Malvasia vineyard in Gorjansko is also being carried forward, with about 400 century-old ungrafted plants. By maintaining an ancient "liera" system, which provides ample space between plant and plant and between row and row, intense and robust wines are born, destined for meditation and capable of giving their maximum expression after years of aging. Marko, with bright eyes and a strong spirit, pours all of himself into his wines, true jewels of the Slovenian Karst.
