Voltumna

Voltumna is an interesting Tuscan reality that has made a name for itself with a production of wines characterized by straightforward and immediate qualities, focused on a craft vision of the wine world. The winery is located in an atypical and alternative area of Tuscany compared to the more well-known and prestigious historical areas. It is, in fact, in the pre-Apennine area of Mugello Valdisieve, which has recently been enhanced, thanks to the search for new lands suitable for vine cultivation and areas characterized by a continental climate, also to counteract climate change and the constant rise in temperatures. The project was born from the passion for viticulture of four young men who decided to join forces to create a small estate with a craft character.

The vineyards are located in a high hill area, at an altitude between 250 and 350 meters above sea level. The cool and breezy climate favors a slow ripening process of the grapes, with elegant and intense aromas. The soils are predominantly composed of clays, very suitable for the needs of the vine. The winery's focus has been on three grape varieties that have proven particularly suitable for the conditions of the pre-Apennine area: the indigenous Sangiovese and the international Pinot Nero and Pinot Grigio, which have adapted particularly well to the continental climate. In particular, Pinot Nero has found increasing space in Mugello in recent years, which is becoming one of the new reference territories for the noble Burgundy grape variety.

The philosophy of the winery is oriented towards a model of viticulture that is as natural as possible, practiced in full respect of the natural ecosystem. The vineyards are cultivated in a biodynamic farming regime, without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers, in order to promote soil vitality and allow the vine to find its natural productive and vegetative balance. The harvests are, of course, carried out manually, with a selection in the vineyard of the ripest and healthiest bunches. The fermentations take place spontaneously, using only indigenous yeasts and the wines are bottled without clarification or filtration.
