The Montecucco Rosso Riserva “ColleMassari” is a full-bodied and structured red wine that, thanks to its pleasantness, has rightly become the benchmark of this winery. The area is that of Cinigiano, a small municipality in the province of Grosseto, at about 320 meters above sea level, at the foot of Monte Amiata in Tuscany. The Montecucco Riserva “ColleMassari” is made from predominantly Sangiovese grapes, with small additions of Ciliegiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon, coming from vineyards exposed to the southeast and northeast located on gentle hills overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea and characterized by soils rich in iron, clay, and limestone. The winery, located in Maremma within an ancient fortified medieval village, was founded in ’98 and is now dedicated to the practice of organic farming that respects the surrounding territory.
The “ColleMassari” Rosso Riserva Montecucco is produced from carefully selected and hand-harvested grapes towards the end of September and the beginning of October. The bunches, once they arrive at the winery, are gently crushed and destemmed and moved only by gravity, without the aid of pumps or other mechanical means.other mechanical means. The alcoholic fermentation takes place in open wooden vats of about 10 quintals capacity and in steel containers, with daily manual punching down. The wine is then racked and remains in aging in oak barrels and French barriques for at least 18 months and is further aged for 12 months in the bottle.
The Rosso Riserva Montecucco “ColleMassari” presents itself with an intense ruby red color, with aromas of ripe red fruit and berries on the nose, including cherry, blackberry, and blueberry, floral notes of violet, aromatic herbs such as bay and sage, along with hints of underbrush, wet earth, and cedar wood. On the palate, it is soft, rich, and dry, endowed with fine tannins and good freshness that gives pleasantness to the sip.
