The Sangiovese Superiore Riserva 'Rocca di Cesena' from the Leonardo Da Vinci winery takes us back in time to 1502, in the heart of Romagna, to contemplate the excellence of nature, the wisdom of the winemakers, and the love for the land. It is with this red wine that Sangiovese and Syrah, in a winning blend, achieve an unparalleled softness and richness of aroma. Wild strawberries, iris, and vanilla meet, embraced by soft and powerful tannins. Ideal to enjoy with a Chianina steak and roasted potatoes.

The Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva ‘Rocca di Cesena’ from the 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna line of Cantine Leonardo Da Vinci represents an expression of Romagna Sangiovese with a warm and structured character. The ‘1502 Da Vinci in Romagna’ collection pays homage to the 6 months that Leonardo Da Vinci spent in Romagna, specifically in the year 1502. During this time, he had the opportunity to refine his knowledge of wine by learning new winemaking techniques at the court of the Borgia. The name and illustration on the label derive from one of the drawings that Leonardo made in Romagna, which depicts the Rocca di Cesena.

1502 Da Vinci in Romagna Cantine Leonardo Da Vinci ‘Rocca di Cesena’ Romagna Sangiovese Superiore Riserva consists of a blend of Sangiovese (85%) and Syrah (15%), varieties cultivated within the municipalities of Castrocaro Terme, Predappio, Meldola, and Bertinoro. The vines rest on clay and marl-sandy soils located at an altitude between 100 and 250 meters above sea level. The harvest is done by hand and is followed by red winemaking with alcoholic fermentation that takes place in contact with the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks thanks to the inoculation of selected yeasts. After the complete completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 2 long years in barriques and tonneaux of medium-toasted French oak, both first and second passage.

The Romagna Sangiovese ‘Rocca di Cesena’ Superiore Riserva 1502 Da Vinci in Romagna of Cantine Leonardo Da Vinci has an intense ruby red color tending towards garnet. The nose is vivid with hints of small red fruits, iris, and wild violet, combined with hints of vanilla imparted by the wood aging. The taste is warm and soft, with balanced freshness, from the powerful tannin that anticipates the persistent finish.
