Barraco
Nino Barraco sees wine in his own way. His is, in fact, a singular interpretation based on dialogue with the vines and the land, which he respects and enhances to the fullest, according to the tradition passed down to him by his father. Free fermentations, long macerations, and cellar operations outside of any scheme constitute his identity as an interpreter of the territory and the grape varieties of this corner of Sicily. The artisanal character of Cantina Barraco and its wines is also guaranteed by its very small size and by Nino's exclusive control over the fundamental agronomic and enological practices; it is only in this way that continuous research and experimentation aimed at achieving an interpretation of wine that is increasingly faithful to the place, the microclimate, and the human experience that produces it are possible. For this reason, Nino has decided to focus on local varieties, such as Grillo, Zibibbo, Nero d'Avola, Pignatello. He has also decided to start a project on the rediscovery of local varieties.
«The business idea is not that of a "perfect" wine, but of a wine recognizable for its personality, in which dissonant notes participate forcefully in its characterization.
To achieve this goal, careful avoidance of the standardization brought about by the intervention of technicians is practiced, relying on the complexity and variability of nature». These are the words with which Nino loves to describe his work and his wines: unique and wonderful examples of an incredible terroir.
