Marco Ludovico
Marco Ludovico is the wine artisan of the natural park of the Terra delle Gravine. Marco's idea has always been to create typical and authentic wines that reflect his origins, his personality, and his artisanal philosophy, free and without rules, based on respect for the plant and the environment. Before launching his project, Marco, driven by his love for the world of wine and the family passion for viticulture spanning 3 generations, decided to pursue a degree in oenology at the University of Udine. After completing his studies in 2012 and after various experiences in wineries around the world, including Manduria, Montalcino, Naples, Mendoza (Argentina), and a brief internship in New Zealand, he decided to help his father Giangiuseppe at the Ludovico estate in Mottola, in the province of Taranto, and to give life in 2017 to a new wine-making project. Thus, the extraordinary bottles of Marco are born, aimed at expressing the pure essence of this territory, without filters and without oenological shortcuts.
The Ludovico winery cultivates the most typical and ancient local grapes, such as Fiano Minutolo, Verdeca, and Primitivo, alongside more popular varieties, such as Trebbiano and Sangiovese. The vines are located between 280 and 370 meters above sea level on soils of different compositions: ranging from clay and limestone layers to tuff soils rich in skeleton. In the vineyard, a low-intervention approach is followed, aimed at preserving the vitality of the soil, thus banning chemicals and industrial products. In the winery, the belief is the same; fermentations occur spontaneously and aging takes place in steel, wood, or amphorae.
The wines of Marco Ludovico present themselves with a very appealing style with labels that aim to be, as the producer says, “not a tribute to nature but to the symbiotic relationship between man and nature.” The designs created by the artist Mario di Paolo are the voice of Mother Nature told by man and represent the human profile tinted with symbols and leaves that recall the surrounding environment. The line includes the orange wine made in amphora based on Trebbiano (Amforeas), the aging Sangiovese (Trabaco), the fresh and pleasant Primitivo, the delicate Verdeca, and the sparkling with sediment based on Minutolo. All to be tried, listened to, and appreciated, to discover an original and unexpected Puglia!
