Mottura Sergio
The winery of Sergio Mottura is located in a territory rich in natural resources: it is bordered to the west by the hills and clay ravines of Civitella d'Agliano and to the east by the Umbrian plain washed by the Tiber. We are in the province of Viterbo, in an area dedicated to viticulture since 1292, as evidenced by the land registry records of Orvieto.
The winery has belonged to the Mottura family since 1933 and has been managed since the 1960s by Sergio Mottura, who wanted to safeguard the natural heritage while modernizing the structure both in terms of new facilities and cellar activities.
Today, the vineyard covers 36 hectares and is developed on volcanic soils rich in minerals. The indigenous varieties are favored, such as Grechetto, Procanico, Verdello, and Drupeggio. The selection of the most suitable clones for winemaking and their cultivation for a long time in the same environment has led to a natural selection of the species that best defend themselves against local pathogens, allowing the elimination of pesticides.
The philosophy of the Mottura winery is based on a responsible use of natural resources: it cultivates its vines according to the parameters of organic farming. This also explains the choice to use the porcupine as the symbol of the winery: it is indeed an animal that lives exclusively where there is ecological balance. For this reason, the wines of Sergio Mottura guarantee strong territoriality, quality, and respect for the environment.
