Villa Papiano

Villa Papiano is the story of four brothers who, taking their father's joking words literally about how nothing unites more than a mortgage, created a project to renovate old vineyards in a natural oasis in the Apennines. The Winery is located in the beautiful setting of Val d'Ibola, at the gates of the Casentino Forests National Park and embodies in its philosophy and production the search for balance between forest and vineyard, province and city, Romagna and Tuscany. This balance is also clearly visible in the management of Villa Papiano, where Francesco, Maria Rosa, Giampaolo, and Enrica share the helm and duties under a common vision of sustainability.

The vineyards of Villa Papiano extend over 10 hectares on hillside terraces at about 500 meters above sea level and host old vines planted in 1960, completely rethought by the Bordini brothers. The lands are characterized by sandy formations with clay incursions, a reminder of the sea that once dominated this area. Francesco and Maria Rosa decided from the start to prioritize the indigenous grape varieties of Sangiovese and Albana, but here there is also room for experiments with Balsamina and Negretto grapes. Since its founding in 2000, Villa Papiano has adopted a organic farming regime and a handcrafted approach to the vineyard, maximizing the enhancement of the territory and the riches of the vine.
Over the years, Villa Papiano has become synonymous with contemporaneity that treasures the teachings of nature, refining year after year the style of its wines without betraying the character of the cultivated varieties. From the poor soils of Modigliana, expressive bottles are born, telling of the cold days of Val d'Ibola, but also of the light and flowers of the undergrowth and marine minerality. The Winery seems to have not only encapsulated in its production all the "boundaries" that have characterized it since its first harvest, but has also shown that it can surpass them by tracing a new path of viticulture aimed at a full green integration.
