Vino del Poggio - Andrea Cervini
Born as an agriturismo, the small winemaking reality of Vino del Poggio by Andrea Cervini quickly carved out a space in the Italian artisanal wine scene thanks to wines of great straightforwardness and sincerity. The winery is located in Travo, on the gentle hills of Piacenza, an area where the producer Andrea Cervini, who grew up among the vineyards, has made peasant wisdom the strength of his reality: because true wines can only be born in the vineyard. A fundamental aspect for Andrea was the friendship with Giulio Armani of the La Stoppa estate, which pushed him in 2006 to decide to embark on this winemaking adventure. The territory in which the winemaker operates is rich in history, having been the scene of an important event in the Second Punic War, when on a cold morning of December 18, 218 BC, the Roman legions, led by the consul Tiberius Sempronius Longus, faced Hannibal's troops in the battle of Trebbia, suffering a bloody defeat. Only one of the war elephants brought by Hannibal to defeat the Roman army survived the cold and the battle, and it is precisely this episode that alludes to the symbol of the little elephant that appears on the labels signed Vino del Poggio.
The vineyards of the Vino del Poggio winery – Andrea Cervini are located in the Val Trebbia, surrounded by woods and planted on 4 hectares of hilly land of clay and limestone origin. In the cultivation of his rows of Malvasia Bianca di Candia Aromatica, Bonarda, and Barbera, Andrea embraces a truly sustainable agricultural management, which excludes the use of pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers, relying solely on low doses of copper and sulfur in plant protection. The harvest is strictly done by hand, and the winemaking approach is also genuine and artisanal, based on spontaneous fermentations in stainless steel tanks and long macerations on the skins even for white grapes. Moreover, throughout the entire production process, the use of filtration operations is excluded, and the additions of sulfites are minimal or none.
andhighly territorial expressions that stand out for their pleasantness and passionate character, an authentic reflection of Andrea's production philosophy.Born as an agriturismo, the small winemaking reality of Vino del Poggio by Andrea Cervini quickly carved out a space in the Italian artisanal wine scene thanks to wines of great straightforwardness and sincerity.
