Pietradolce
On the northern slope of Etna, in the small hamlet of Solicchiata, lies the Pietradolce winery, a wine-growing reality that has quickly established itself among the best Etnean producers. At the helm of the estate are Michele and Mario Faro, brothers who in 2005 started this viticultural project with the firm intention of producing wines of excellent quality that reflect the characteristics of the Etnean territory. The winemaking and aging operations take place in a fascinating structure characterized by a non-invasive architecture that perfectly integrates into the surrounding landscape, built with volcanic rock, iron, wood, and soil taken from the vineyards. Furthermore, the winery has been designed with a focus on eco-sustainability thanks to measures that promote energy savings. The estate's logo, a triangle with its reflection, was chosen to symbolize the volcano that infuses its benefits into the surrounding territory.
The Pietradolce winery has 35 hectares of vineyards, reserved for the traditional Etnean grape varieties such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante, mainly trained as bush vines and partly represented by centenary plants. The vines are rooted in loamy-sandy soils of volcanic origin, characterized by an abundant presence of skeleton and mineral substances, located between 600 and 900 meters above sea level. In the winery, they seek to enhance the enormous potential of the Etnean territory while always respecting tradition, but not shunning the use of cutting-edge technologies as long as they do not distort the unique expression of the terroir. For vinification, concrete tanks are used, while the aging of the crus mainly takes place in French oak tonneaux.
Whites, rosés, and reds, all the wines from the Pietradolce winery show astonishing typicity and class, whether they are the so-called “base” or, especially, prestigious crus such as ‘Barbagalli’ and ‘Sant’Andrea’. The labels depict the “woman-volcano”, symbol of elegance and power, attributes that are found in the wines of Pietradolce.
