Satta Michele
The Michele Satta winery is one of the most important and representative in the Bolgheri area. Its birth was, however, accidental. In 1974, Michele Satta, a young student at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Milan, was on vacation on the Tuscan coast, near Castagneto Carducci. On that occasion, he met the owner of a farm who offered him an internship during the harvest. Thus began his love for this land, and after graduation, Michele started looking for some land to rent to embark on his own venture in the winemaking sector. He managed to find some old vineyards, with an attached winery, which became the starting point for a wonderful adventure that later led him to produce some of the most famous labels of the Bolgheri territory.
plots that he considers particularly suited and begins work to build a winery. During the same period, he made several trips to the most important wine regions of the world, which enriched his experience and expanded his knowledge and horizons. Thanks to his curiosity, Satta manages to extract the best from the Bolgheri area, characterized by the proximity of the coastline and surrounded by gentle hilly reliefs. The sea is the true protagonist of the territory, which boasts exceptional brightness and a climate that is always temperate and breezy, thanks to the breeze regime.
At the base of his wines are undoubtedly the successful models of Sassicaia and Ornellaia, reinterpreted according to his personal vision of the Bolgheri terroir, which he believes is also very suitable for Sangiovese and Syrah, which contribute to give the blends a more Mediterranean touch. In 1994, the Piastraia label was born, a perfect synthesis of his thoughts and which immediately made him famous as one of the most capable producers of interpreting the authentic face of the terroir and enhancing its potential.
